Subject Overlap

Today seems to have been a big day for finding connections between Physics and Math. One of my teachers posted about how certain concepts, like “origin”, have different connotations depending on which subject you’re talking about. Recently, I noticed an overlap in the uses of trigonometry and angles.

We are studying Optics currently in Physics, and have been measuring the angles of incidence/reflection. Also, we have used trigonometry to find the distances between an object and where the light reflects off of a mirror. In math, we have covered all sorts of triangle work and are now starting trigonometry. It’s nice to be able to use material form one course in another because it gives a sense of solidity.

I wrote a post recently about how subjects overlapping stimulates the mind greater, and this is a prime example of that.
